Cohab Canyon Trailhead is located Between the Gifford House and the Fruita campground. Don’t be alarmed by the switchbacks, the 330-foot climb is a quick assent and worth the breathtaking views of the valley below. As you approach the mouth of the canyon, the red rock walls on both sides are overwhelming and quite spectacular. Astounding geologic features are scattered throughout the canyon which provided many neck-craning photo-Ops. Many opportunities to stray off the trail into narrow slot canyons and dead ends along the way. Canyon floor surface varied from sand to rock rubble and in few places we even had to traverse on slickrock. After about a mile, there was a junction that took us to the top of the canyon walls. A short walk revealed the Fruita orchards and Fremont River below with a backdrop of iconic varnished red rock. After a short break, beverage and snack we headed back to the trail head. This 3.6 Mile hike was in the books.
